Final Meeting and Dissemination Conference

Our final project meeting took place at Stellenbosch University from June 7-11, 2021. Due to the ongoing travel restrictions implied by COVID-19, the meeting took place online and in presence. An important event during the final meeting was the Dissemination Conference on June 9. The aim of the Dissemination Conference was to showcase the DAMOC Project, its successes and identified challenges in the development of human capacity for the diffusion of Smart Grid Technology in the African context. Very interesting talks were presented by the two keynote speakers: Dipl.-Inf. Martin Adolph (ITU, Switzerland) and Prof Germano Lambert-Torres (FIEEE, Gnarus Institute, Brazil).

The Conference proceedings are available here.

We wish to thank our partners from SU for the organization of the final meeting and the Dissemination Conference!

Additional Block Course in Cape Town

On November 25, 2019, we carried out an additional block course at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). This course covered topics related to data security and privacy, particularly, privacy in Smart Grids, data security in companies, and an introduction to cryptography. Special thanks goes to our partners from CPUT for hosting and organizing this block course.

Project Meeting in Pretoria

Our sixth project meeting took place in the beautiful city of Pretoria from September 9-13, 2019. All partners presented updates on their project progress and discussed the current state of courses and teaching. It was a pleasure to welcome Prof. Apostolov, a leading developer of the IEC61850 standard at IEC committee and Smart Grid and Adjunct Professor at CPUT. On this meeting, he gave a very interesting talk on “Cyber security challenges to Smart Grid protection, automation and control applications based on the IEC 61850 standard”. Furthermore, we had the opportunity to see the lab at UP and its new equipment during the lab presentation.
We wish to thank our partners from UP for hosting us and for organizing the meeting!

Lab Equipment at UP

The lab at UP was equipped with desktop computers in order to increase the quality of the educational experience of the students, and the productivity of the faculty who teach the courses that use this lab. The officla hand-over and the representation of the lab took place at the project meeting at UP in September 2019.
