Stellenbosch University – Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies (SU)

 

Stellenbosch University is a research-led university accredited as a public higher education institution by the Department of Higher Education and Training in terms of the Higher Education.

The Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies (CRSES) at Stellenbosch University, was established in 2007 as the national hub for postgraduate programmes in renewable and sustainable energy (RE) through a grant from the Department of Science and Technology (DST). The Centre has a dual purpose:  the training of scientists and engineers with the required technical expertise to unlock the country’s RE resources, and the implementation of appropriate technologies for the sustainable use of RE.

Our vision and mission are to support the transition to Renewable Energy of the South African economy and society by producing postgraduate students for the private and public sectors; providing cutting-edge technical solutions for the RE industry; enabling the transfer of appropriate knowledge; facilitating and coordinating National initiatives in RE; and creating public awareness in RE.

The Centre acts as a central point of entry into Stellenbosch University for the general field of RE. The work of the Centre focuses on contract research, postgraduate modules in RE and the coordination of other training courses in RE.  It has strong networks with other centres, groups, research and academic institutions in the RE field, both Nationally and internationally.
